Bobby Hoffman died September 14, 2012. He was a 1989 Jacksonville High School graduate and a member of the JHS Band, basketball and track teams. He also played basketball and graduated from Lakeland Community College, in Mattoon, Illinois. Bobby was married to Kristan Becker Hoffman for 15 years. He was employed and operated Becker Farms for 20 years.
Being a passionate and enthusiastic fan of Jacksonville High School sports, Bobby volunteered for five years as an assistant boys’ basketball coach. He founded the JHS Boys Basketball Boosters, when he began fundraising efforts for the team by hosting an annual golf outing in 2007. Bobby loved playing basketball at The Bowl and worked very hard to see that it would be maintained for years to come. He was a founding member of the Preservation of the Bowl committee. He looked forward to raising money to help preserve The Bowl and most importantly see that a new floor be installed to replace the current 40 year old floor. The floor was important to him not only for the love of basketball and The Bowl, but also knowing his two daughters might be cheerleaders or Jettes someday. He loved life and his family, especially his daughters Leah, 7, and Kolby, 3.
His daughters decided they wanted to help raise money for The Bowl and knew that their daddy wanted a new floor. So they decided to have Leah’s Lemonade and Kolby’s Cookies serving at all the JHS Boys Basketball home games. Donations, big and small, are to the Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation’s Preservation of The Bowl Fund which is a 501(c)3 organization. Many projects are on the wish list, but Leah and Kolby decided to honor their dad to raise money for the floor.
